Mail from Classmates

We get notes from our classmates, and would like to have more updates on what everyone is doing these days. Note that we don't have much current news from anyone!

Anetta Eck Gross:

Thanks Ron for your consistent SPHS newsletter about our classmates and I relate to the yearbook photos because that is what I know.  And didn't we look neat, well groomed and clean.  Those were the good old days!

My husband writes a newsletter for "Rickety Rocketeers" or former employees of Convair/General Dynamics/later LockheedMartin at Cape Canaveral plus anyone else at other locations who indicates an interest.  They have breakfast every other month with 2 years missing because of COVID.  I see the dedication it takes to dig up history of launches and to publish a newsletter about current launches - when, what they do, etc.  And he sends out death notices as they occur - getting to be more and more frequently.
Our class seems to be doing well at 60% still with us.  We're in Cocoa Beach and if we were closer I would love to join in.

Bill White: Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. I hope 2007 bring me to St. Pete to meet with classmates and do some sightseeing. The enclosed article is from a monthly Atlanta news paper that covers a lot of activities and people here. [The article is about Louie Shemaria and his business, Bennie's Shoes, www.benniesshoes.com]. Louie is married to our classmate, Iris Smith. I've bought shoes from his store in Buckhead. I met him at our [30th] reunion at the Don Csar in 1984. He is a very friendly person- his Southern graciousness reminds me of some of my Atlanta-born fraternity brothers. I drop into the shop from time to time- it's on Piedmont Road just north of Lindbergh, next to the Miami Circle art & antique district. [Bill enclosed some pages from a book entitled, What a Year It Was, 1954. He found it at a Goodwill store for just a couple of dollars, and it contains all kinds of facts about the nation, entertainers, TV, movies, sports, etc. Excerpts may appear in future class newsletters.] Has anyone you know been to the Georgia Aquarium? It's spectacular. I've been in many times escorting tour groups and have an annual pass. The new World of Coca-Cola will open in early May. If anyone from our class comes here, I'd be glad to talk with them (770) 971-2906, and  help the find their way around. Thank you for all that you and the other classmates do to keep the friendships and spirits of SPHS '54 alive.
